As a care giver to many seniors over the years – I seem to be attracted to elderly who are in need or they are attracted to me, I haven’t figured out which – I found that Barb’s common sense approach to helping, encouraging, and learning from the elderly is much easier when Barb’s wisdom is taken into consideration. Wisdom earned by years of dealing with two of the most important in her life- her parents.

Devotion and determination are two key ingredients when dealing with your elderly loved ones or the neighbour who you never did get to know very well. It can get “taxing” in both circumstances but keeping the fact that we are indeed our brother’s keeper is still an important adadge.

I do believe that if everyone looked out for one older person and one young person a lot of heartache would be alleviated. It is much better to give than receive, and to give as much as we can while we are young is a good thing .One day we will be old and shall possibly be in the receiving end. It could be nice to know that we reaped what we sowed.

I did get carried away with the above remarks but my point is that we cannot do these things (life) alone and it is good to have all the support we can muster. Sometime we have to get professional help. Maybe we need to only ask a question, write an e-mail, have someone to talk to but I would strongly suggest that person be Barb Kirby. There are many ways in which she can help and I found that assistance truly invaluable.

Thank you Brenda for your kind words. Sometimes we don’t know why we suffer and go through such struggles. I told Mom something good would come of the 15 year journey of caring first of all for Dad with his brain injury then 7 years later both of them after Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. My eyes were opened wide through those care giving years and I hope to positively support as well as help others prepare for that vital yet often frailer stage of life.
